I joined NLP as a Planner in 2007, after working as a Development Control Officer for Newport Council. Following the decision to take the leap from the public to the private sector, I researched a number of consultancies in the South Wales area, with NLP standing out for a number of reasons including the independent ownership structure and the diverse nature of high profile development projects. At my interview, the relaxed and friendly office environment further demonstrated to me that NLP would be a great place to work.

I initially started my career at NLP within the Retail Team and after a period of two years was rotated into the Housing and Economic Team. One thing I have been grateful to NLP for is that I have never felt pigeon-holed, with opportunity to work on a large range of projects including the submission of a major mixed-use waterfront regeneration scheme, a research study considering the complementarity of rural settlements and the preparation of Retail Impact Assessments for major supermarket schemes. NLP has also offered me significant support in my career development, helping me to achieve RTPI membership and assisting me in my progression to Senior Planner.

NLP is a fantastic company to work for, and the Cardiff office is fun and lively, with a good social scene. At NLP you are encouraged to network with clients at every level. For me this has included both formal and informal dinners, evenings at the races, casino nights and even watching Cardiff City play! I would certainly recommend NLP to others, whether joining as a graduate or simply looking for a change.
