NLP Maximises Economic Benefits of Olympic Legacy

July 20, 2011

NLP has completed an economic development study, on behalf of the Lee Valley Regional Park and partner local authorities, for the Lee Valley White Water Centre, a venue for the London 2012 Olympics on the northern edge of London. The study assessed the potential of the Centre to strengthen the leisure offer of the Regional Park through complementary leisure, tourism or business developments and regenerate the wider surrounding area. Drawing on similar facilities around the world, it also examined how economic benefits to the surrounding area could be maximised and provided a Spatial Framework to guide future development.

The study showed how a world class facility such as this could break the pattern of unsuccessful Olympic legacies elsewhere by acting as a catalyst for developing a cluster of adventure-type activities and attracting a range of investment and jobs.
