NLP seconded a member of staff to BAA Plc to provide planning advice in relation to Stansted Airport. During this time, NLP submitted planning applications including alterations to the terminal facilities, the new ‘welcome’ site for the airport, the proposed visitors centre, and oversaw the delivery of the passenger transport interchange. NLP also promoted the use of the airports permitted development entitlement, submitting consultations under Part 18 of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995 to secure security enhancements, works to the runway and other operational development. This included a 100 bed hotel within the Terminal, which was deemed an ancillary use providing improved facilities for passengers and did not require planning permission.
Additionally, NLP provided a plan monitoring role, together with reviews of planning applications to assist the airport with its safeguarding function.
Airport related companies at Stansted also used NLP’s planning consultancy expertise, including car rental companies to secure planning permissions.
