NLP was commissioned to provide planning consultancy services regarding an Energy from Waste (EfW) planning application to Telford and Wrekin Council. The application sought planning permission for a single steam Energy from Waste (EfW) plant with capacity for approximately 62,000 tonnes of waste per annum, producing 17MW of steam energy on a site 4km north east of Telford town centre.
NLP’s role was to appraise the planning application and Environmental Statement against policy, best practice and industry guidelines, undertake a comprehensive alternative site assessment and prepare a planning case report. The report examined a wide range of site-specific issues including landscape, transport, heritage, ecology, sustainability principles and the co-location of waste facilities. Completion of this report required close working with Council departments and other appointed co-consultants.
NLP’s planning case report was presented to Members of the Planning Committee and formed the basis for the Council’s refusal of the scheme.
