Steel House rejected for listing

January 31, 2012

Following the preparation of a successful rebuttal against English Heritage’s recommendation to list ‘The Steel House’ at London Biggin Hill Airport, John Penrose (Minister for Tourism and Heritage) has rejected the listing proposal.

‘The Steel House’ was originally constructed for the 1965 Ideal Home Exhibition and subsequently relocated to the Airport, where it was used as an office to support the Biggin Hill Airshow. NLP carried out research into the building’s history and prepared a robust rebuttal to English Heritage’s report, demonstrating that ‘The Steel House’ failed to meet the statutory criteria for listing.
